Eight Shifts in the Role of the LeaderEight Shifts in the Role of the LeaderUsing over 20 years of consulting, training and research experience, we have pinpointed many shifts in the role of a leader. We have found that companies succeed in Lean conversion when their leaders demonstrate a high degree of competence and fluency in the following elements:
While mastering these elements is a must for the plant manager, it is also critical that there be a plan for department heads, professional staff, front-line supervisors, lead people or team leads and all hourly associates to develop mastery of them as well. Change Partners can help you pinpoint which of these shifts distinctly applies to your company and implement a training program around those shifts, tailored to your employees' skill level and the company's business needs. Most recently, Change Partners has successfully implemented a version of this training for the poultry industry entitled Eight Shifts in the Role of the Leader, a 32-hour curriculum consisting of four, 8-hour sessions. We understand training should be a culture mandate, and that from that point on, business results should always be tied to training, and tracked and verified on a routine basis. On the 8th day of "Eight Shifts in the Role of the Leader," Change Partners facilitates the class in identifying 32 issues that have significant impact on the business and that, corrected, would yield business results. Of the 32, 16 are selected for further review, in small sub-teams, using the tools presented during the training. The class exercise calls for the sub-groups to discuss the issues in more detail, create a problem statement, apply compatible tools learned and report out their recommended path for solving or improving the business condition. One of the four issues selected is further analyzed for its potential ROI. This information is submitted for use by the company as a method of improving the business.
