Role Description Process

An invaluable process to capture the goals and expectations of a role or similar group of roles within an organization, thereby creating ownership of the role through involvement and participation by all key groups connected to it.

Workshop PPP Statement

Purpose:

  • To define the nature and scope of a role in terms of objectives, responsibilities, expectations and key results.

Products:

  • Scope of role is defined
  • Expectations are established
  • A profile and framework for the role is created for applications such as: selection, training, performance reviews and development

Process:

  • Gather 360 degree input from:
    • Person(s) in role
    • Supervisor or manager
    • Peers
    • Direct reports
    • Other key contacts e.g. customers

Overall purpose of the role within the organization/site. Usually no more than three or four. Areas that define how the objectives will be accomplished. Action steps or tasks. Skills and specific behaviors required in the role to be effective, and accomplish the responsibilities and objectives. 5-7 visible and measurable results that demonstrate the objectives have been achieved
